This past Sunday marked the anniversary of the passing of Freeland Girls Basketball Coach Tom Zolinski. To keep the memory of Coach Z alive, Freeland Coach Matt Hirshenberger sent out a challenge to current and past players to make 5,000 shots (as we all know, “makes are the ones that count”). In a show of admiration for their former coach, the program produced 32,457 made shots. Support was shown from seniors that were on Coach Z’s 1st team (07-08) through current players. The longest shot recorded was from Chelsie (Fuller) Chacon, from Colorado to Michigan. Coach Hirschenberger was amazed, but not surprised, by the support and the show of respect for Coach Z, who meant so much to our program and, more importanty, to his players. Tom Zolinski is greatly missed!
