Mrs. Bowen and Mrs. Tarrien combined their second grade classes to celebrate the 100th day of school last Friday. Students participated in a $100 shopping spree, they had a chance to estimate what was in the estimation jar, they rolled to 100, built puzzles that had 100 pieces, and made various items using cups, Legos and other building tools.

In Mrs. Revell's 6th grade writing class last week, the students presented their Food Truck Projects in class. They had to imagine that the story's main character started their own food truck. Each element of the food truck design and menu had to be based on the story. Some students even chose to bring in food samples when they presented!

FES would like to highlight Mrs. Grocholski, a second grade teacher!

Each day starting at 8:50 a.m. a different group of 5th graders act as our Greeting Crew in the morning. The students wave and high five to our 2nd-4th graders that are entering for the day. They remind them of our PBIS expectations, and even get to hand out SOAR slips to the students as they come into the building, and walk the hallways. It is a great way to kick off the school day! A special thank you to Mrs. Huckeby for working with the students and organizing the 5th graders!

FES wants to send a shout out to ALL of our 2nd-6th graders for working so hard on their winter iReady testing! They have been working hard to follow the ABCs of testing over the last 2 weeks, and they have been earning marbles for our giant marble jar. They hit their goal line yesterday and today during lunch they got to have a DJ. Thank you to Rusch Entertainment and our FES/LC PTO for sponsoring our DJ, and for celebrating our academic growth in such a fun way!

The third graders in Ms. Mantei's class are traveling virtually around the world to investigate how holiday traditions are similar and different around the world. They made Reindeer Food in "New York City" before they departed for Canada!

Our FES Annual Food Drive has officially kicked off!

In observance of Thanksgiving, there is no school for students November 27-29.

The last few years, the Learning Center and Elementary School has done a “Be the Change” Coin Drive during Kindness Week. We have collectively raised around $6,000 that has been donated to the Michigan Epilepsy Foundation, Aleda E. Lutz Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and this year we were able to go shopping for our local food pantries. Thank you to our community for being so generous and allowing us to help support organizations that are near and dear to our hearts!

We are kicking off Thanksgiving Week with a staff spotlight from the elementary school, Mr. Harrison, our 6th grade math teacher!

Wellness Wednesday is TOMORROW at the LC and ES!

Our 5th graders honored Veterans on Monday by wearing red, white and blue, and creating a Wall of Honor in the 5th grade hallway that will be there for all to see!

This week, the 4th graders went on a field trip to the Midland Tennis Center and were able to watch matches for the Dow Tennis Classic, and participate in some fun STEM activities. They had a great time!

The LC and ES are kicking of Kindness Week by honoring our Veterans on Monday, November 11 ❤️🤍💙

Congratulations to the elementary students for meeting their fall fundraiser goal for PTO! The top earners out of each grade level were able to pie Mrs. McKenna in the face today, and the top classes were able to watch live. All students in the school were able to watch through a virtual stream into the classrooms. Thank you to all of the families that donated to make our fundraiser a success!

Students in Mrs. St. Charles classroom were teachers for each other in writing! They read about the pros and cons of using coal in preparation for writing opinion speeches. The students read text with specific information, and then were able to teach the class answers to questions citing specific evidence from their reading. Way to go 4th graders!

6th graders have been collaborating and exploring the concept of volume for rectangular prisms!
