The Nov. 8th millage supports special education, allowing Freeland Schools to fund the following for the next ten (10) years:
· Student Intervention Specialists (2)
· Intervention Paraprofessionals (6)
· Elementary Counselor
· Secondary Social Worker
· Pathways to Graduation Program
· One (1) additional special education teacher to assist our schools to service Freeland students in Freeland.
This is an opportunity to create a sustainable funding source for many of the meaningful supports we are providing for our students. Many of these are being funded through ESSER funds and will become the responsibility of our general fund in the years to come. If there is a successful millage, Freeland is committing all revenue it provides to these supports.

The Freeland Fabricators Club had a great weekend hosting 36 teams from across Michigan at the Freeland FIRST Tech Challenge Week 1 Robotics Qualifier.
Both Freeland FTC Teams, 5386 and 21672, qualified for the State Championship in December.
Team 21672 finished qualification rounds in third place and as an alliance captain picked their sister team, 5386 to join them in the playoffs. Together with team 12775 they made it to the final round but came up just a little short, finishing in second place. As the finalist alliance captain, team 21672 earned their championship spot. Team 5386 won the Motivate Award and was runner up for the distinguished Inspire Award, which earned them their championship spot.
Congratulations to both teams and good luck at the State Championship.

There are current discussions occurring, as there have been for many years, on strategies to address Freeland School’s space and infrastructure needs as well as our aging buildings. That being said, the Freeland Community School District would like to provide the following update:
There is no bond proposal on the ballot in November and there will be no proposal on the ballot in May.
The District would not rush into a bond proposal without having spent time considering alternate avenues, working with professionals, obtaining accurate costs, and getting feedback from the staff and community. You should only expect a bond proposal to be brought forward by the Board of Education after open communication with the community.
The District has not verified any monetary numbers or statements being made by any independent bond proposal being shared in the community.
Freeland is currently one of very few debt free school districts in the State of Michigan, saving individual taxpayers hundreds of dollars every year.
Due to sound fiscal management and decision making, the District continues to be in good financial shape, as verified by the June 30, 2022, audit.
Though important, District facilities are just a small part of what the Freeland Schools provides for this community and our children. Please know that what goes on inside the walls of our schools is much more important on a daily basis than any conversations about the walls themselves. We offer an excellent education for the children of Freeland and will continue to do so.
Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have.
