Mr. G w/ Students and Pop Evil

This week, Freeland Elementary School is highlighting K-6 music teacher Mr. Jeremy Guenther, affectionately known as Mr. G.  This is Mr. G’s 25th year of teaching in Freeland, and as many of you may have heard by now, he will be retiring at the end of the school year.  For anyone that has had a child in Mr. G’s music class, you know the impact he has had on them and how truly beloved he is as a teacher.  His positive attitude and wonderful sense of humor have made him a hit with students year after year.  One of the many things that have made him such an asset is his charismatic personality and his natural ability to relate to students, all of which contribute to his ability to engage students in learning.

When asked what he finds most rewarding about his position, Mr. G said, “Teaching 1,000 students each week afforded me the opportunity to have a positive impact on 1,000 students every week.  Watching my students learn, develop, and grow, not only in their musical skills and abilities but in their love and appreciation for music has been incredibly rewarding!  Building the truly high-quality vocal music program, The Powley Street Singers, that put 120 singers on stage twice a year, performing high-caliber contemporary arrangements was arguably the most rewarding aspect of my teaching position.”

Mr. G. also shared that what he has enjoyed most about working in the Freeland Community School District is, “I’ve enjoyed being a part of an amazing Specials team, as my colleagues are the true embodiment of the word flexibility.  Additionally, it has been a blessing to work under Mrs. Lopez and Mr. Hillborg as they are, without question, two of the best administrators I’ve ever worked with during my 25 years in Freeland.  However, the most enjoyable aspect of teaching here has been the countless number of incredible students that I’ve been lucky enough to teach, the relationships I’ve made with them and their families, and being able to instill a love and passion for singing and music that my students will take with them for the rest of their lives.”  Thank you Mr. Guenther for all you have done for Freeland Elementary, the Freeland Learning Center, and for the Freeland Community School District!  We will cherish the memories always!
