Question: Can Freeland Schools allow students not to wear masks in school?
Answer: No, students (and all staff) must wear masks. According to the May 6, 2021, MDHHS Epidemic Order, the following three (3) items hold true for schools:
- All persons participating in gatherings are required to wear a face mask.
- Transportation providers must require all staff and patrons to use face masks.
- A person responsible for a school must prohibit gatherings of any kind unless the person requires individuals in such gatherings (including employees) to wear a face mask, and denies entry or service to all persons refusing to wear face masks while gathered.
Additionally, the Saginaw County Health Department’s stance is that schools must follow the MDHHS Epidemic Order.
