Freeland Community School District

This week, the Freeland Learning Center is highlighting Title I teacher, Mrs. Johanna Dreyer.  Mrs. Dreyer is in her 21st year of teaching for the district, most of which occurred at the kindergarten and first grade level.  This year, however, Mrs. Dreyer had the opportunity to move into the role of Title I teacher, one that is very different from that of a classroom teacher.  In addition to teaching, she has the immense responsibility of planning and preparing all of the reading intervention lessons for her team, which consists of two other adults, Mrs. Melzo and Mrs. Clark.  Mrs. Dreyer and the Title I team work with students in kindergarten through fifth grade at both the Learning Center and Elementary School. Anyone that knows Mrs. Dreyer can tell you what a positive person she is and what a great advocate she is for the Freeland Community School District.  One of the things that makes Mrs. Dreyer such an asset is her ability to connect with students. Her personality, sense of humor, and commitment to making learning fun, are just a few of the reasons why all of her students feel loved and cared for.

When asked what she finds most rewarding about her position, Mrs. Dreyer said, “One of my favorite parts of teaching first grade and kindergarten for most of my career, was teaching small group literacy instruction.  Being a part of helping kids become readers is one of the most rewarding parts of my profession. Therefore, when the opportunity to become the Kindergarten through 5th grade reading Title I teacher became available this school year, I jumped at the chance.  I am fortunate to work with the awesome staff and students at both the Learning Center and Elementary as well. There is never a dull moment working with a different group of kids every 30 minutes and I truly love helping kids reach their reading goals!” In addition, when asked what she enjoys most about teaching for Freeland Schools, she stated, “That is easy!  I love the sense of pride and the sense of ownership and involvement on the part of the students, parents, teachers, administrators, and community members. Our school system is the center of our community and I am proud to be a part of it. I am thankful that my students, and my own children, are part of a district where they are able to develop close relationships with their peers and teachers, and where they can also develop a sense of belonging.  The Falcon Pride in our school district and our community is one of a kind and the added bonus is that green and white are the best school colors ever!”
